Information About Dropping Classes

We want to make sure you have accurate information about when you can drop a class and how it may affect your transcript.

Drop Without a “W”

You may drop a class on or before 20% of the course and it will not appear on your transcript.

  • The class will be removed with no record of enrollment.
  • You may still be responsible for any applicable fees.

⚠️ Drop With a “W”

If you drop a class after 20% of the course but before 75% of the course, a “W” (Withdrawal) will appear on your transcript.

  • A “W” does not affect your GPA.
  • However, it may impact financial aid, academic progress, or future enrollment if you accumulate multiple withdrawals.

🚫 After 75% of the Course

You cannot drop the class after the 75% point.

  • If you remain enrolled past this deadline, your instructor must assign a final grade.
  • Not officially dropping may result in an F or FW (Unofficial Withdrawal).

Important Reminders

  • Do not rely on your instructor to drop you. It is your responsibility to officially withdraw by the deadline.
  • Check your specific class deadlines in the Self-Service.
  • Students may be dropped for lack of attendance or other reasons defined by the California Education Code.

If you are thinking about dropping a class, we strongly encourage you to speak with a counselor first to understand how it may impact your academic progress, financial aid, or transfer plans.

If you have questions, please contact Admissions & Records or a counselor for assistance.

Students should check their VVC email regularly for updated information.
